Hi All,
Well here goes, what to write next.Did try to do a blog before but never got my head around it. May be this will work out.
This last year it has not been good. Borders U.K. the Silverlink branch was closed when all the U.K. stores went into administration. Our store was one of those that made money. I'm still miffed that the offers to buy our store and the others that were a going concern were rejected.
The sum of the parts was worth more than the whole.
The staff were just numbers of a spreadsheet. Tossed aside, discarded, it made us feel worthless.Lucky for my store our contracts were taken over by HMV. So some of our staff got jobs, not all.
So I was made redundant twice within a month. [24 December 2099 and 27 January 2010]
After spending December 2009 not knowing if I had a job day by day and watching my store being dismantled. [some stores were dismantled around the staff. Shelving removed as soon as they were cleared] My store it was the books and other stock that went.
I was one of the staff to put the first books on the shelves in this store and tended my section for five years. Lavishing care and attention on every book. Making sure that each was in its place. Being able to tell other staff and customers where books could be found, by drop [bookcase] and shelf down.
Freaked a few people by not looking at the shelf and putting my hand on the book they wanted.
I miss the people and the books. I don't think I could look after a section now. Not the way I did. To put my heart into it that way. It hurt so much to see my section in disorder, I thought that one book resting on top of the others meant my section was a mess. To see books everywhere. Was heartbreaking.
Time to move on.....
